Intensive damage follows the M4.8 Bogor earthquake, September 10, 2012

At least 562 houses were damaged following a M4.8 earthquake in Bogor, West Java. The earthquake was onshore at a depth of 8.8 km at 01:27:13 AM (time at epicenter, UTC+07:00) on September 9, 2012 . No fatalities being reported, 3 people were slightly injured and 115 people had to be evacuated.

Strong ground shaking was felt by the resident and it was lasted for about 15 seconds. However, the high intensity of damaged was mainly caused by the weakness of the building structure rather than the ground shaking itself.

This area has experienced several earthquake prior to this event, some of those are: M4.9 in July 23, 1962; M3.3 in December 15, 1991; M4.9 in October 5, 1994; M5 of April 3, 2005 and M4.5 in August 4, 2005. The epicenter located about 30 km north of Cimandiri fault zone, it is suspected that this earthquake was associate with the movement of this fault. Technical information about the event can be found at: USGS website.
